If you or your child is taking classes this fall in Hip hop or jazz you might want to consider getting yourself a pair of Dance Sneakers.  Having the proper dance shoe is very important in dance classes as they not only prevent injury but they also make it easier to perform certain steps.

Dance sneakers differ quite a bit from street shoes.  When looking at dance sneakers you will notice that they have a split sole.  This is to help increase flexibility in the foot and allows the dancer to point their toes better and stand on the balls of their feet effortlessly.  The soles of the sneaker have extra cushioning, acting as shock absorbers while providing extra comfort and support for the feet.  This makes it easier to jump and land on hard surfaces such as concrete streets with decreased chances of an injury.  The dance sneaker also has a very slippery sole, making pivots and spins easier to manage then with regular street shoes.

There are several brands of dance sneakers available but 2 major manufacturers are Bloch and Capezio.  Capezio Dance sneakers are liked for their thin soles and range of motion and Bloch tends to have better support and pivot control.  These are just personal preferences and it is best to ask your instructor which brand they recommend as well as to ask other students what they are using before you purchase.

When buying dance sneakers for the first time you should find yourself a reputable seller who has a wide selection of brands and sizes.  Start off by finding your correct size.  Dance shoes do not always fit the same as regular street shoes and it is important to have shoes that fit perfectly as opposed to being too tight and pinching or being too loose and flying off your feet during a jump.  (don’t laugh that actually happened to my daughter during break dancing class — but she was actually wearing street shoes)  The soles of the sneakers should provide good grip but also have a spot made of a different material to aid spinning.  The weight of the sneaker can be an issue for a lot of dancers.  Some dance sneakers are a lot heavier, so compare weight between the shoes and decide whether or not this is a concern for you.

Investing in proper shoes for dance is extremely valuable in order to increase you or your childs success and to prevent injury.  Dance sneakers are very flexible that they can be used for a variety of different dances and activities such as school performances, cheer leading, aerobics and zumba.
