His excellent craftsmanship and easy going personality made him popular among dancers making his shop a popular meeting place. In 1910 Anna Pavlova purchased Capezio pointe shoes for herself and her entire company while on tour in the United States. This endorsement of Anna Pavlova guaranteed Salvatore Capezio’s success as a shoemaker.
Ben Sommers, who although not family “became like a son to Salvatore”, and ran Capezio’s business from 1950 — 1980. During this time Sommers branched out into high fashion, winning the Coty Award in 1952 for its contribution to the fashion industry.
